Hudsonville's band competes in the Michigan Competing Bands Association (MCBA) and finished 8th in the state in Flight II. It is likely they are quite large and very good! Unfortunately, it is likely that their band won't be joining us for the game! :-(

Homecoming 2005

Posted by Mr. H on Sep 22, 2005 - 10:46 PM  •  Filed under: highschool
Homecoming has arrived! I hope we see some alumni wandering around the place...

Raincoats are now required at all Marching Band performances. Please make sure you bring yours.

Don't forget that the parade begins at 5:30. So, the band must be in place on the "starting block" at 5:15. The parade will take a little less than one hour.

When the parade is finished, you will have enough time time to hit the restroom and that's about it. You will not have enough time to leave the building, and I cannot guarantee enough time to eat anything. The band will step off for pregame at 6:30.

There will be no "tailgate" party as we have done over the last several years. The fact that the parade was moved earlier makes this impossible. Students are encouraged to eat BEFORE the parade (on their own).

The game should end around 9:15 PM. Please plan to pick up your child at that time.

2005 Band Banquet Address - "Servant Leadership"

Posted by Mr. H on Jun 03, 2005 - 02:44 PM  •  Filed under: highschool
This year has been a great year for the band program. The seventeen seniors that are before you now have exhibited wonderful, positive leadership throughout the year and we are here tonight to congratulate, honor and thank them for everything that they have done during their time in the band program.

The question of leadership has been an issue that I have been thinking a lot about all year long. I have actually taken the time to do some research on the subject because I feel that Leadership is probably the best thing we do here in band. We create leaders. These students lead their sections, their classes, their schools. Eventually, I fully expect them to be leading families, businesses, large corporations, cities, states and nations. (Click read more to read the rest...)

After school Monday, May 16th, there will be a meeting for the concert band prop committee, from 2:45-4:45. We need to work on repairing, and making the props stand up. We will also probably review what props will go on, and where they'll sit. Also, who takes them on stage will be decided. (Because obviously we had a problem at practice, and the flutes, clarinets, and oboes can't do it themselves) Please attend! Duct tape and glue would be appreciated if brought. Thanks!

St. Patrick's Day Parade [UPDATED x2]

Posted by Mr. H on Mar 18, 2005 - 02:48 AM  •  Filed under: highschool
The High School Band will be marching in the Annual Bay City St. Patrick's Day Parade this Sunday, March 20. Students should arrive in uniform with raincoats at the Temple Israel on the corner of Center and Green at 1:00 PM. The parade begins at 2:00 PM. The WHS Band will be #43 in the parade (which is relatively early). Hopefully this means that we will be finishing the parade between 3:00 and 3:30 PM. Parents must pick up their students at the end of the parade. The parade ends at the corner of Water and Center, but it is recommended that parents arrange to meet their students a few blocks from there as traffic is thick at that point. The Band Trailer will be available at the end of the parade to take only percussion equipment and sousaphones. All other students should plan to take their instrument home.

The band room will be open from noon to 12:15 pm today for everyone who forgot their instrument. don't be late. Also - despite the weather, we will be marching unless they cancel the whole parade (which never happens). Bring your raincoat! You can wear anything you like under your uniform to keep warm - just as long as we can not see it!
