"What does the budget forecast for the 2006-07 school year look like? The budget for 2006-07 presents the biggest financial challenge we have faced yet. Among the issues are higher health insurance, higher retirement costs, fewer students … This all adds up to the need to restructure and/or reduce the budget by a minimum of $5.5 million." (Supt. Carolyn Weirda)

What does this mean for the Fine Arts and for the Western Bands? Only with your involvement, can you know for sure. Read more to get the details >>>

First Football Game Rescheduled

Posted by Mr. H on Aug 23, 2005 - 03:06 PM  •  Filed under: important
The first football game, which was originally scheduled for Thursday, September 1, 2005 has been rescheduled and will now occur on Friday, September 2, 2005. We were not aware of this change until late last week. Obviously, this has great impact on our band.

The issue was discussed with band members during the rehearsal on Tuesday, Aug. 23. I know that some families will have a difficult time accomodating the schedule change due to previous plans for the extended holiday weekend.

Students than cannot adjust their plans and therefore cannot make it to the performance should submit their reason in writing as soon as possible and no later than classtime on Monday, August 29.

If at all possible, please consider adjusting family schedules to accomodate this change in schedule. The community expects us to be at the game and I would greatly appreciate your effort. thanks - H

Symphonic Band Rehearsal Reminder

Posted by Mr. H on Mar 05, 2005 - 05:14 AM  •  Filed under: important
WHS Symphonic Band members are reminded that we have scheduled additional rehearsals for Sunday, March 6 from 2-4 pm and Tuesday, March 8 from 7-9 PM. Help each other remember - call and remind section members - especially about the Sunday rehearsal.

Mr. Monroe has already agreed to come to the Tuesday rehearsal and I am trying to get someone else to come to the Sunday rehearsal if possible.

Come with a positive attitude and be prepared to work extra hard. We had a GREAT rehearsal on Friday and made a lot of progress. I know we can continue from there and improve. Make sure you are practicing on your own everyday.

Footnote: Concert Band members - make sure you are practicing extra hard too! We have a lot of work to do next week!
