Spartan Spectacular Information Letter

Posted by Mr. H on Oct 18, 2002 - 07:42 AM  •  Filed under: news
October 17, 2002

Dear Parents and Students,

The Spartan Spectacular trip is finally here! This letter should answer all questions regarding the trip. Please contact Mrs. Ott immediately if you find this information does not answer your question.

The buses will depart at 5:00 p.m. from the north school parking lot (by tennis courts). All adults attending the performance should arrive at 4:30 p.m. Every adult is considered a chaperone and MUST have a volunteer application on file with the Bay City Public Schools before boarding the bus. Students are assigned to specific chaperone groups and will need to find their chaperone before boarding the bus.

The concert is located in the Breslin Student Events Center on the campus of Michigan State University. This is the basketball arena at MSU and not an auditorium. Therefore, dress for the concert is somewhat informal. Jeans and t-shirts are appropriate, as most people attending this performance will be coming directly from the MSU football game. Please be aware that appropriate concert etiquette is expected even though the performance is more informal. Audience members should not talk while the musicians are performing and should stay seated for the entire performance. If it is not possible to remain seated, please wait until the end of a piece of music before leaving the arena or returning to your seat.

The concession stands should be available at the Breslin Center however they are very expensive. You should plan to bring at least $10 if you plan to purchase food or beverages. It is highly recommended that everyone eat dinner before boarding the bus. We are not going to stop for dinner.

The feature artist for this year’s performance is Sony Wilkinson, jazz vocalist. Other performing groups include: MSU Wind Symphony, MSU Jazz Band, Spartan Marching Band, the Spartan Percussion and several other solo performers.

If you have any further questions, please contact Mrs. Ott at 662-4481, ext. 6456. I will check my voicemail periodically until 9:00 p.m. on Friday and then again on Saturday until 2:00 p.m. You can also reach me via e-mail at otth@bcschools.net.

Sincerely,

Heidi Ott

After the band calendar was printed and mailed, the administration changed when homecoming would be to October 11 (not the 4th). (The handbook is correct, and the web calendar has been corrected). So, make sure you have it correct in your own calendar - Homecoming is October 11th. Senior night will be October 4th.

Band Camp Attendance Policies

Posted by Mr. H on Aug 15, 2002 - 04:31 PM  •  Filed under: news
In the last few days, I have received several questions and calls about the possibility of a student leaving band camp to attend some function back at school. This seems to be a growing problem which could have a very negative effect on the band as it prepares for its upcoming season. Our policy is this: A student may only leave camp with permission of the director. Students involved in school athletic activites will only be excused on a case by case basis and only if they are involved in varsity athletics and only for a game/meet/match. This policy has been supported by the Athletic Director. Non-athletic conflicts must be reolved on an individual basis. In all cases, communication with the director long in advance is crucial to any agreement that can be made.
