Mr. Comerford Gets First Gig, News at Eleven

Posted by Mr. H on Jun 30, 2003 - 03:59 PM  •  Filed under: news
Yes, that's right ladies and gentleman, Mr. Comerford has just accepted his first position as a band director. He will be teaching at Bentley Public Schools where he will be the one and only band director (and choir director) (and drama director) for the entire class C district! The program there is small but growing and he is very excited and nervous to take on such a challenge. We all wish Mr. C the best and we have great confidence that he will do great!

Board Changes Plan Regarding MS Exploratories

Posted by Mr. H on Apr 29, 2003 - 04:59 AM  •  Filed under: news
The BCPS School Board voted unanimously to change the Exploratory plan for the 2003-2004 school year at a special board meeting Monday, April 28. The plan, which was recommended to the board by Associate Superintendent Carolyn Wierda, includes Band as well as several other exploratory areas every day for all sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. There will be some other changes to the band program however for the year. One major change is that the seventh and eighth grade bands will not meet altogether as a class. Each band will be split and part of the band will meet in the morning and part will meet in the afternoon. This will make it necessary for some after school rehearsals in order to work on Ensemble skills. More news to come as it becomes available. Thank you again to all the parents that worked so hard to help maintain the band program at Western and Handy.

Board Unanimously Votes to Reconsider [updated]

Posted by Mr. H on Apr 29, 2003 - 04:49 AM  •  Filed under: news
In a 7-0 vote at the BCPS School Board meeting on Monday, April 14, the School Board directed the District's administrative staff to investigate alternative solutions to the Middle School Exploratory issue. The Board also directed the administration to involve Mr. Tom Bleau and members of the band parents associations from both Western and Handy/Central in that investigation. This result is a direct result of the involvement of all band parents and the leadership of Mr. Tom Bleau, Bay City Central Band Booster President. Congratulations to all for your fine work. Now the real hard work begins as several meetings are likely to be scheduled in the near future as we work with the administration to generate new ideas. The Bay City Times covered the story here.
